About me

Freelance web/mobile applications developer and designer

My name is Matt Fairbrass, I'm a {[{'1988-06-03' | age}]} year old UX developer and designer from London, England. Now living in Sydney, Australia.

What I do

I spend my time coding mainly in JavaScript, SCSS and HTML, building mobile and web applications. I love working with AngularJS, React and Famous.

While client-side front-end development is my 'bread and butter' (and the space I prefer to be in), I have also professionally worked with PHP, Node and MySQL on the server side in the past.

Outside of the professional development work I do, I like to contribute to the modding community around the Arma series of games, specifically DayZ Epoch Mod – writing scripts in SQF.

Beyond code, I like to keep active through Ceroc dance classes, attend meetups and discover new bars and restaurants. I'm a huge fan of music, so on most weekends you'll find me at a gig somewhere. Now that I am living in Sydney, I want to learn how to surf so I can get more out of living in close proximity to so many beautiful beaches.

Career

I currently work as a software engineer for Lab49, a strategy, design and technology consulting firm that creates advanced solutions for the world’s leading investment banks, asset managers and exchanges.

Prior to joining Lab49 I worked for Clear Books and ChilliBean as a software engineer and UX designer. Clear Books is a multi-award winning software as a service provider of Accounting, Payroll and HR software. ChilliBean is a digital asset management and file transfer specialist for the television industry.

Education

I graduated from the University of Kent, Canterbury, England in 2010 with a 2:1 in 'Web Computing with a year in industry' (BSc).
